Banking & Finance Job Site Survey Results

In the absence of truly independent information about internet job sites we got together with Nigel Lynn Associates, the accountancy and finance recruitment consultancy. We contacted 3000 candidates registered with Nigel Lynn and asked them how they felt about on-line recruitment - you can't get more independent than that!

The news was rather revealling:

  • In general the future of job sites looks rosy. Five times more people felt that they would get their next job through an intenet job site than actually got their last job that way!
  • The most common method for people to intially find their favourite job site was via a search engine - this may disappoint many job sites who have spent heavily on advertising themselves off and on-line.
  • Once attracted to a job site it's favoured status depends heavily on the quality of some rather basic components. The most important features of a job site were given as follows:
    • Ease of use
    • Speed of searching
    • Wide selection of vacancies
    • Jobs by email
  • It's not just a young person's game - 54% of users are over the age of 35.

So, that's the general picture, but which job sites are viewed by their accountancy users as best?

GAAPweb has clearly opened up a significant lead over their major competitors. Although this is not the case for GAAPweb many of the "best" job sites are not always the most heavily visited.

The larger, more general sites do not appear to be as effective for the specialist accountancy market. This suggests there is a trade-off between breadth of reach and depth of knowledge.

HR Portal's in-depth knowledge of the on-line banking and finance sector is available to any job site wishing to improve its market performance. We handle in excess of 150,000 banking and finance job postings each year and the same number of candidates reply through our systems. This means we are able to advise how to optimise job site performance to improve candidate responses.
